The Targeted Intervention Program for Employment and Economic Growth

Notwithstanding many efforts aimed at readdressing the issue of high unemployment rates in Namibia, the latest labour force survey shows that the unemployment rate has increased to 51 percent. The bulk of the unemployed are the young and unskilled segment of our country's population. This situation is not sustainable, and if not urgently addressed, it may lead to unintended social and economic imbalances in the Namibian economy. It is in view of this that the government has decided to adopt a special job creation programme called the Targeted Intervention Programme for Employment and Economic Growth, also known as TIPEEG to address the issue of high unemployment.
